Managing Food Safety Along the Supply Chain

“From ensuring regulatory compliance to overcoming food fraud, here’s how the cold food and beverage industry can achieve a strong food safety culture.” According to Food Logistics, “a critical part of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s mission is safeguarding the human and animal food supply, helping to ensure that our food is not contaminated at any point during its journey along the supply chain,” Frank Yiannis adds. “We do not anticipate that food product would need to be recalled or withdrawn from the market for reasons related to the outbreak, even if a person who works in a human or animal food facility is confirmed to be positive for the COVID-19 virus.”

Carnivore Meat Lends a Hand to Frontline Workers During Pandemic

“Carnivore Meat Company is essentially a meat shop for dogs and cats.” The COVID-19 pandemic has caused the company to suffer, but they chose to use their facility for good. The National Provisioner has reported that the company has allowed its staff to work from home and changed “the behaviors of plant workers to minimize risk.” The company has repurposed some of their machines “used to sterilize masks so they can be reused.” “The UV machine had been set up in a cleanroom environment with a wall over it. Used masks are received, run through the UV machine and placed in sterile bags to be sent back to their owners.”’

The Meaning of Food Safety

According to Food Safety magazine, “there is no consistent or accepted definition of “food safety,” and this term appears to have different meanings among the public and even among food safety professionals. We are aware of the lack of a working definition of food safety among food safety professionals and individuals working with foods, and this limitation may become a barrier to how food safety professionals communicate the concepts of food safety to the public.”
